The influent calcium concentration (522.8 mg/l) is up substantially and the North Bio mixed liquor and south bio mixed liquor has significant calcium carbonate precipitated throughout the biological floc. Normally, for toxicity reasons, flocculation enhancement, reduction in effluent TSS and sulfide precipitation, I am a strong advocate of increasing the influent calcium concentration; however, due to the high concentration of non volatile solids in the mixed liquor and the excessive calcium carbonate visually evident upon microscopic examination, the increased influx of calcium needs to be defined.
